The Mills County Outreach Center provides client intake, client assessment, client referrals, and coordinates with other community resources. The outreach center has a certified Family Development Specialist, assisted by senior aides and occasionally community volunteers. Staff work closely with local organizations to insure non-duplication of services and to maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.
The goal is to strive to assist low-income families of Mills County in becoming self-sufficient. A wide variety of programs, services, and referrals reflect this accomplishment.
Programs offered through the Mills County Outreach Center are: emergency food assistance, clothing room, LIHEAP, Weatherization, and utility assistance. In addition, Energy Wise kits are distributed.
Clients may receive emergency food assistance up to 4 times per year in any given calendar year.
Clients may have access to the clothing room once a month.
Special projects include the Love Tree Program, a Holiday Gift Drive, and Holiday Food Baskets during the Holiday seasons, and a cooperative effort with the Salvation Army to collect monetary gifts for needy families.
This office distributes and/or assists with applications for the South Iowa Regional Housing Authority (SIRHA), and DHS applications, including medical and EBT cards.
